Union County Fairs & Festivals Are Highlight of August

The Celtic Festival & Highland Games in La Grande

The sun is out and the festivals and fairs of Union County kick off the final leg of your summer adventure for 2013. With such mainstays as the Union County Fair, Cove Cherry Festival, Grassroots Festival and the Highland Games, the last leg of Union County’s Summer journey is shaping up to be a great one.

July 31 through August 3, head down to the Union County Fair at the fairgrounds in La Grande. The real old-fashioned, rural county fair features animal judging, a talent show, booths, rides, a LEGO building contest, lots of educational information about farm life and live entertainment. The fair opens at 8 a.m. each morning.

Saturday, August 10, spend a day in the beautiful Victorian town of Union at the Grassroots Festival! The festival starts at 7 a.m. and includes fun for the whole family! Enjoy food, shopping, and activities from sunrise and on into the night! There will be live music all day in the park and the Car Show & Shine begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Stop by the Union County Museum for the Dutch-oven cook off and to see the acclaimed museum’s collection, including the Homestead Act Exhibit, on loan from the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.

Halfway through the festival circuit, on August 17, the Cove Cherry Fair kicks off at 6 a.m. with the Clover Haven Ride. Festivities include a race and fun run/walk, breakfast, and parade, with activities happening all day long for the whole family. Good music, good food, and lots of fun.

The last summer festival in Union County is the 6th Annual Celtic Festival & Highland Games, August 24 & 25, at the Union County Fairgrounds in La Grande. Celebrate everything Celtic and enjoy classic Celtic competitions. There’s entertainment, dance, highland games, food and more at the Celtic Festival & Highland Games.

The last leg of the summer is chock full of education and fun for the whole family. It’s the time to visit Union County and partake in some of the area’s ritual festivals and fairs. Don’t miss it!
