Baker City, OR – In celebration of National Fishing Week, several Free Fishing Day events for children are planned for Saturday, June 6. No license is required for anyone who wants to fish during the annual Free Fishing Weekend June 6 and 7; however all Oregon fishing regulations still apply.
Children attending Fishing Day events must be accompanied by an adult. Remember to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, hats, sunglasses, drinking water, and rain gear. Event organizers are looking for volunteers to help with lunch, registration, fishing techniques, contests, and other tasks. Those interested in helping or needing further information should contact the event organizer in their community. Following are two events in byway country:
Baker City – June 6: Highway 203 Pond – 9:00 to 12:00 (I-84, Medical Springs Exit 298)
Baker County youth and their families are invited to participate in the annual Baker City Kids Free Fishing Derby. Each child should bring fishing gear and bait. A limited amount of fishing rods and bait will be available to participants that don’t have their own. A free hot dog lunch will be provided.

Enterprise – June 6: Marr Pond – 10:00 to 2:00
Free Fishing Day in Wallowa County will be at Marr Pond in Enterprise. Children should bring their fishing rods, favorite lure, enthusiasm, and be prepared to catch the big fish! Loaner rods and bait will be available for those who need them. There will be prizes for the fishing and casting contests. A hot dog lunch will be provided. There will be painting, coloring, and hands on educational activities for all ages.

Employees from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Nez Perce Tribe, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, along with local volunteers, are assisting with the event.
