Cast Iron Chef: Dutch Oven Cook-Off at NHOTIC

Hells Canyon Scenic Byway > Events > Cast Iron Chef: Dutch Oven Cook-Off at NHOTIC

Baker City, Oregon__Trail Tenders, the volunteer group, will host a Dutch Oven Cook-off on Saturday, October 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.

If you enjoy cooking in the outdoors and would like to share your skills, participate in the fun team competition celebrating traditional open air cooking, community and locally harvested ingredients. Teams will be assigned an open fire cook space at the Trail Center outdoor wagon encampment. Teams will not know what ingredients they have to work with until the Master of Ceremonies reveals this information. When the signal is given, teams must complete and plate their meals for tasting by the judges. Samples will then be available for the audience to taste, and vote for the People’s Choice. Judges will proclaim one team the 2016 Cast Iron Chef Champion, an honor that comes with prizes and a full year’s worth of bragging rights. Additional prizes will be awarded for 2nd place in each category.

Outdoor activities and games make this a fun day for the whole family! Come try the Wagon Master & Oxen relay race, Buffalo Chip toss or make homemade ice cream. Sit a spell and visit with mountain man Joe Meek at the wagon encampment or venture inside the Center and enjoy the exhibits and documentary films.

October 8 is a Fee Free Day, so bring your friends and family along!
